As Class of the Week for the second time, we were able to have a Movie Afternoon in class with some treats. After a vote we chose to watch Disney’s Descendants and we shared popcorn, Maoam and sweets we brought from home.
We were glued to the screen and some even enjoyed cuddling into pillows and teddies we brought from home.
Check out how fabulous we look in our new jackets and wellies. These have been kindly donated by NLC and we are very grateful as they will help to keep us clean(ish) when we are learning in the outdoor environment.
On Monday we will be tasting Scottish Foods as it is Burns’ Night. We will be tasting Tablet, Shortbread, Haggis, Vegetarian Haggis, Potato Scones, Oatcakes and Diet Irn Bru.
Children are only expected to taste these, and if you would rather they didn’t please let me know.
Term 3 Homework begins today with a new timetable at the front of the Homework Jotter. Remember to follow this timetable and complete tasks with a new date and title every day.
Spelling Homework should be handed in on Thursdays.
Today Brian told us about seed potatoes. He had some to show us and they looked like ordinary potatoes. He told us that if we left the potatoes on newspaper for about one month the “eyes” would start to grow roots and then we could sow them in soil to grow potatoes. From one potato planted, we should get 10 potatoes to grow. This process is called “chitting” and each of us had the chance to take part.
After one month we will sow the potatoes in the planters in our outdoor area. We had to weed these to get them ready. Brian told us that weeds are “plants in the wrong place”. He showed us the difference between fibrous weeds and tap weeds. When we sow the potatoes it willl take about twelve weeks for them to grow and then we can pick them and make baked potatoes, mashed potatoes and chips. Brian even suggested using the herbs we planted before Christmas to create a herb butter to put on our potatoes for extra taste. We can’t wait!!
Most of us remembered to bring out pea and broad bean plants back to school after taking very good care of them over the holidays. We are all impressed as to how much some of them have grown. We can’t wait to see how they will grow now we have them back at school.
