Dig In Day Success

And there was definitely a lot of sweating today in the lovely hot weather as we all worked hard to help finish our outdoor area. It was great to see so many of you join us for the Dig In Day.  Thanks to you, it was a very successful day!

The Nature Garden now has it’s brand new sign, and will now be known as Nature’s Nest, as proposed by a P5 pupil and voted for by the other children in P4 & P5.

We also managed to cut back and clear away all of the tree branches that were poking through the fences and used all the branches to create wildlife dens in the garden.  We could then create art work on the boards on the fences, that look fantastic!

The hardest work was probably removing all of the logs and large pieces of wood that originally created a trim around the paths in the garden.  These had become lodged in the ground due to overgrown grass and were very difficult to remove.  It took lots of muscle!! These pieces of wood and logs were moved to an area of the garden to create a Wildlife & Bug Hotel.  The paths were widened and will be re-barked at a later date.

It really wouldn’t have been possible to get this amount of hard work completed without the help of the P4&5 teachers, their families, the P4&5 children who came along, their parents and all of the other parents and children who kindly volunteered to help.  We also owe a huge thank you to Colin and Jackie from Greenspace Development, Drumpellier Country Park and the team from Spacecraft.  P4&5 look forward to continuing work on Nature’s Nest with Colin and his colleagues on creating an outdoor classroom area, extending the pond, building and hanging bird boxes and developing ways we can invite more wildlife into Nature’s Nest.
