Hi everyone,

All remote online learning for Social Subjects classes will be moving to Microsoft Teams on Glow, meaning any current Edmodo groups will be closed and new one Teams pages set up.

You will need your Glow account details (please get in touch if you don’t have these) and you will be provided with Teams codes for the subjects you’re studying in 2020-21.

These are still being created and information will be posted here, on the school website and on the Edmodo pages until they close.

I know everyone is keen to get started on their new courses and this will happen very soon!

United Nations Leaders and Teen Stars Invite Young People to Reimagine the World Post COVID-19.

These past few months have exposed many challenges and inequalities in our world but also the incredible power of collective action.

Now is the time for change. The United Nations wants everyone to reimagine the world using the Global Goals as the starting point. On the 16th June World’s Largest Lesson Live will premiere on YouTube at 4pm UK time.

This global broadcast for teenagers is a 30 minute educational show featuring United Nations leaders including Amina J Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the UN. They are joined by teen stars Millie Bobby Brown, Sofia Carson and students from across the world. They will all invite young people to take part in reimagining education, health and activism.

Even though most pupils won’t be returning to the school building until 11th August, remote learning continues until the end of term on 24th June 2020 and your teachers will continue to post work for you to complete online. Please try your best to get this work done and let us know if you’re having any problems.

“Remembering Miles Davis, and remembering the long history of black men being brutalized simply for being. For those don’t know the history, on August 25, 1959–eight days after the release of his “Kind of Blued album—Miles was performing at Birdland, recording an Armed Forces Day broadcast for Voice of America. In between sets he had escorted a friend out and put her in a cab and was relaxing in front on the club having a smoke. A police officer approached him and asked him to move on. Miles pointed to the marquee, explaining to the officer that he was performing inside and that it was his name on the marquee. Still the officer persisted, not caring who he was or what he was doing. While Miles was trying to explain to the police officer that he was making a mistake when a detective, drawn by the crowd that was starting gather, blindsided him and hit him in the head a few times with a billy club, drawing blood. He was then arrested and taken into custody, and after going to the hospital to get his head stitched up was charged with felonious assault on an officer.”

Childrens Parliament is working with children to share their experiences of Coronavirus. In the latest edition of their Corona Times Journal, children write about learning in lockdown and reflect onthe return to school, including that important transition to secondary school:

Upcoming Vtalks

75 years ago this Friday (8th May 1945), there was a day of celebration declared across the UK to mark the Allied Forces Victory in Europe against the Germans in WWII. However, the war was not over until Japan surrendered on 2nd September 1945.

The UK government decided to move our public holiday to 8th May this year to coincide with the 75th anniversary. Unfortunately, current circumstances mean that there won’t be any large scale public commemoration events as there would normally be, but here are some links to information you can read and tasks you can try at home to mark the day yourselves:
