The curriculum includes all of the experiences which are planned for children and young people through their education, wherever they are being educated. All schools and nurseries in North Lanarkshire are working hard to raise standards so that children and young people will develop all of the skills necessary to continue to be successful when leaving school and entering the world of higher education, training or work.<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum for all learners\u00a0is underpinned by Scottish Government policy\u00a0for\u00a0development and learning. The\u00a03-18 curriculum aims to ensure that all children and young people\u00a0in Scotland develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in life, learning and work.<\/p>\n<p>The knowledge, skills and attributes learners will develop will allow them to demonstrate four key capacities \u2013 to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The four capacities<\/h2>\n<p>The purpose of\u00a0the curriculum\u00a0is encapsulated in the four capacities &#8211; to enable each child or young person to be a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor.<\/p>\n<p>The attributes and capabilities of the four capacities are outlined below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.st-timothys.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/FourCapacitiesDiagram530_tcm4-715823.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2179\" src=\"http:\/\/www.st-timothys.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/FourCapacitiesDiagram530_tcm4-715823-300x202.gif\" alt=\"FourCapacitiesDiagram530_tcm4-715823\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum includes all of the experiences which are planned for children and young people through their education, wherever they are being educated. These experiences are grouped into four categories.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Curriculum areas and subjects<br \/>\n<\/strong> The curriculum areas are the organisers for setting out the experiences and outcomes. The title \u2018experiences and outcomes\u2019 recognises the importance of the quality and nature of the learning <strong>experience<\/strong> in developing attributes and capabilities and in achieving active engagement, motivation and depth of learning. An <strong>outcome<\/strong> represents what is to be achieved. Each area contributes to the four capacities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interdisciplinary learning<br \/>\n<\/strong> How the curriculum should include space for learning beyond subject boundaries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ethos and life of the school<br \/>\n<\/strong> The\u00a0starting point for learning is a positive\u00a0ethos\u00a0and climate of respect and trust based upon shared values across the school community.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opportunities for personal achievement<br \/>\n<\/strong> Pupils need\u00a0opportunities for achievements both in the classroom and beyond, giving them a sense of satisfaction and building motivation, resilience and confidence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Curriculum Levels<\/h2>\n<p>Children experience a broad general education from nursery to the end of Secondary School Year 3. Learning is divided into levels.
