At present there are three teachers in the Art & Design Department and they offer specialist teaching in the following areas;  Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, Sculpture, Interior Design, Textiles, Graphic Design, ICT and Digital Photography among other things.

Progression Through Art and Design

Pupils are offered a broad course from S1 to S3 where they will experience as many techniques and subject areas as time allows. This allows them to build confidence in their creativity.

All of the lessons taught in S1 and S2 are concordant with the Curriculum for Excellence initiative enabling pupils to gain a vast breadth of knowledge from their experience in the Art and Design department.

In S3 students continue with their Broad General Education, honing their drawing skills and developing more complex design concepts, leading to National 4 and National 5 courses which are offered in S4. National 5 is the foundation to Higher and Advanced Higher.

Careers in in Art and Design

There are endless opportunities for Art & Design Students such as Architect, Designer, Jeweller, Photographer, Textile Designer, Animator, Teacher or Ceramicist. Careers and jobs include specialist positions in these areas.

Many students leave St Maurice’s and go on to Higher Education to further develop their Art and Design knowledge. Establishments such as Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art, City of Glasgow CollegeGlasgow Clyde College, School of Textile and Design etc. offer wonderful courses from NC level through HNC and HND to Degree and Masters Degree.
