DYW EVENTS

1. The Big Assembly.
National assembly streamed to schools all over the UK where pupils could speak to Engineers about pathways into this career.

2. BGE STEM Event. Coatbridge College
Pupils from S1-S3 attended a full day STEM event in Coatbridge College where they took part in a number of different STEM taster courses provided by the college.

3. S3 Girls STEM day.
S3 girls took part in a half day working with one of our Business partners Carey’s. Girls found out about different careers available to them in the construction and engineering fields. Girls also completed a number of different tasks to help them in effective communication, teamwork and how to work effectively in the working environment.
Alexander Lawson spoke to the pupils, Alexander is on the board for Young Professionals Women in Science and Engineering and gave the girls invaluable information in following a career in engineering.

4. S2 Subject Choice Information Evening.
Each year S2 have the opportunity to take part in an evening of career and subject choice information. Representatives from different careers areas are in the school and available to speak to the pupils about careers in different fields. Also on the evening Skills Development Scotland are always on hand to provide seminars on the use of their website. During this evening Teachers and subject champions are also available to speak to pupils about course information.
This year we had a special speaker, Mr John Trower. John is a Commissioner for Infrastructure for the Scottish Government. John gave parents and pupils an insight into jobs for the future.

5. Subject Champions
Each year subject champions are appointed to help S2 in choosing their subjects as they move into S3. The subject champions are senior pupils, who represent each subject offered in the school. The champions also speak to S2 pupils about their career aspirations and their intended pathways into this career.

6. Enterprise.
S2 organised a Street Food Event. Pupils developed a variety of foods and then went onto produce and sell as part of a whole school event.
7. S2 My World of Work Registration.
All of S2 are registered on the My World of Work website. The site is an excellent resource to aid pupils in a wide range of career information topics, interview skills, CV development, Self-assessment tools, the list is endless. The target is to ensure all pupils are registered and using the website.

8. Senior Careers Information Evening.
Each year senior pupils are invited to attend a careers evening. This event takes the form of mock interviews from representative of different career fields and also a careers fair in the assembly hall where pupils can get the chance to speak to a number of different businesses.
