To face the challenges of the 21st century, each young person needs to have confidence in using mathematical skills, and Scotland needs both specialist mathematicians and a highly numerate population.<\/p>\n<p>Learning through mathematics enables children and young people to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>develop essential numeracy skills, which allow them to participate fully in society<\/li>\n<li>develop a secure understanding of the concepts, principles and processes of mathematics and apply these in different contexts, including the world of work<\/li>\n<li>have an understanding of the application of mathematics, its impact on our society past and present, and its potential for the future<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At St. John Paul II, children engage with maths through a variety of resources which allow them to investigate and exploring. <strong>TeeJay Maths<\/strong> is our core resource, but is supplemented by other resources. \u00a0Some of these resources are highlighted below<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scottish Heinemann Maths 1-7<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Target Boards<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Numbers Up<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Maths Games<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">SMARTBoard Activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Active Numeracy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ICT is an integral part of the teaching of maths.
