In literacy, the children have continued working in their phonics and spelling groups, learning new phonemes and common words. We have used a variety of engaging strategies such as magnetic boards, phoneme flowers and phoneme walks around the classroom to help reinforce our learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During reading, the class have worked hard during group reading sessions, independent reading time and follow-up tasks linked to their books. These activities are helping to build fluency, comprehension and confidence, and the children are enjoying the variety of stories and activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2795<\/strong> Maths and Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In maths, we have been learning about fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. Pupils have used shapes and practical materials to help identify and create equal parts, developing a strong understanding of these important concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We have also continued learning our times tables using catchy songs and interactive activities. The class have been practising the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables and are becoming more confident in recalling these facts quickly and accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc1e<\/strong> Topic \u2013 Minibeasts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our Minibeasts topic has continued to capture the children\u2019s interest this month. We have carried out further minibeast hunts and have been learning how to identify a range of insects and other small creatures found in our environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As part of this topic, we have collected natural materials to help us design and build our own bug hotel. We are looking forward to constructing it together as a class and placing it in our playground so we can observe which minibeasts come to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We also linked our topic learning to maths and art by exploring the symmetry of butterflies and creating our own beautiful symmetrical butterfly designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our next topic will be the Human Body, which we will begin exploring in June. The children are very excited to learn more about how their bodies work and how to keep themselves healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc9b<\/strong> Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In Health and Wellbeing, we have been focusing on the Emotion Works programme, particularly the \u201cRegulation Strategies\u201d cog. We have been discussing how to recognise our emotions and what we can do to help change our feelings to a more positive emotion when we are upset, worried or frustrated. Primary 2\/3 have enjoyed all the activities and visitors that joined us in Health Week during May, staying active and learning about healthy eating and how to wash your hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83c\udfc3<\/strong> Physical Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In PE, we have continued developing our teamwork skills through a range of partner and group activities. These games have helped us practise communication, cooperation and problem-solving. We have also been working on our football skills, focusing on dribbling, passing, control and aiming. The children have enjoyed applying these skills during fun games and team challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u271d\ufe0f<\/strong> Religious Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In RE, we have continued learning about other world religions with a focus on Judaism. We have explored the important features of this religion and learned about the synagogue and what can be found inside it. The children enjoyed creating their own stained glass window designs and learning about the Star of David, an important symbol in the Jewish faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83e\udd81<\/strong> School Trip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A highlight of the month was our school trip to Five Sisters Zoo. We all had a fantastic time seeing a wide variety of animals and enjoying a special day out with our classmates.
