Primary 2: Settled, Singing and Ready to Learn!

What a fantastic start to Primary 2 we have had! It feels like our lovely little learners have been in school forever (in the best possible way!). They have settled in brilliantly, made new friends, found their feet and, most importantly, found plenty of opportunities to make us laugh along the way!

๐ŸŽถ Weโ€™ve been singing our hearts out!
Our classroom has been filled with songs, rhymes and lots of very enthusiastic voices as we have been practising our counting and learning our 2 times table. Weโ€™re not quite ready to take our show on the road just yet, but there have certainly been some very confident performances!

๐Ÿ‚ Maths has taken us outdoors!
We have been learning all about place value, and what better way to explore numbers than with a little help from nature? We headed outside on a stick-and-leaf hunt and used our treasures to build and represent numbers. Who knew a playground full of sticks could become a maths classroom?

We have also been learning about measurement, including measuring our own heights and investigating the length and size of objects around the playground. There has been lots of measuring, comparing and discovering โ€” and quite a few opportunities to find out exactly who is the tallest!

๐Ÿ“š Our reading and writing journey is well underway!
We have been learning lots of new sounds and are becoming increasingly confident at using them in our reading and writing. We have even started writing some BIG sentences! There are capital letters, full stops, fabulous ideas and lots of very busy pencils appearing in our jotters.

And then, of course, there are the Friday spelling tests…

We won’t pretend that Friday spelling tests are the highlight of everyone’s week! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But our children have been working hard, practising their words and showing fantastic determination. We are very proud of them!

๐Ÿฆ’ Gerald the giraffe has also been a very special visitor!
We have loved learning about Gerald from Giraffes Can’t Dance and thinking about how he felt when he struggled to dance like everyone else. This led us beautifully into our work on growth mindset.

We have been learning that sometimes things are tricky at first, and that’s okay. Instead of saying, โ€œI can’t do it,โ€ we are learning to say, โ€œI can’t do it… YET!โ€

Our Primary 2 children are discovering that mistakes are part of learning, challenges help our brains grow and, with perseverance, practice and a positive attitude, we can achieve so many things we put our minds to. ๐ŸŒŸ

So, hereโ€™s to a fun-filled, learning-filled and slightly noisy Primary 2! We have already packed so much into our first few weeks, and we cannot wait to see what adventures, discoveries and achievements are still to come.

Keep singing, keep counting, keep trying and, most importantly…

Keep believing you can do it! ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒˆ

Hereโ€™s to a wonderful year ahead in Primary 2! โค๏ธ
