Primary 5/4 Burns Supper

What a great turn-out for Primary 5/4’s Burns Supper this morning.  Invited guests were treated to music and song, poetry and dance…not to mention a taste of some Scottish food.

We have been baking for a few days, perfecting our Clootie Dumpling, and today we were given great feedback on our final product!

Charlie – Today was good.  We were all confident speaking about Robert Burns.  My mum came and I think she enjoyed the Scottish dancing best.  I saw her laughing.

Eva – It was great.  The children were not hesitating when they spoke to the adults, it all just seemed to come naturally.  That’s because we were confident about what we were speaking about.  My Gran and Grandpa came and they really enjoyed the dancing – my Grandpa is a professional dancer, so he knows a good dance when he sees one!  At the end we asked for feedback. I was collecting the sheets and pretty much every one I saw said they really enjoyed it.

Jessica – I really enjoyed working at the food stall.  We worked well as a team and we all made sure everyone had a job.  I was pouring the Irn Bru and it was really tempting just to have a sip, but I resisted!  Everyone thought it was impressive that we had baked the dumpling ourselves.  They were all scoffing it as quick as they could!  It was even more popular than the haggis.

Kelsi – My favourite bit was teaching the adults at the stations.  My job was to explain how we prepared the Burns Supper.  The adults asked me a lot of questions, and I knew most of the answers.  The rest of my group were there to help if anyone asked a tricky question.  We all worked together as a team.

Brodie – It was fun working as a team while we planned the Burns Supper and during the presentation today too.  My job was to share my lapbook and play a game with the visitors.  The game taught them the order of events in Rabbie Burns’ life.  Today it was the children teaching the adults!

Ryan – After the parents left we did another Burns Supper for some Primary 5 and Primary 2 pupils.  I enjoyed teaching the P.2s about the Burns Supper.  I changed what I said to make it easier for the younger children to understand.  I think they enjoyed it.  We got lots of smiles and loud applause!

Beth – I was at the food station where my job was to serve the Clootie Dumpling.  My favourite part of the day was reading Connor’s poem out to the Primary 2s.  Connor had written the poem about me.  It went like this: Oh the lassie I know is a beauty, With blondie hair and spicy toes, Oh the lassie I know is a real beauty, With sky eyes that look into my hairy face, Oh the lassie I know is a beauty.  The Primary 2s were all laughing.
