{"id":91,"date":"2015-04-28T15:12:58","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T15:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/stdavidsps\/?page_id=91"},"modified":"2015-05-08T09:59:49","modified_gmt":"2015-05-08T09:59:49","slug":"the-parent-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/stdavidsps\/the-parent-council\/","title":{"rendered":"The Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-container fix\">\n<div class=\"entry fix\">\n<p class=\"first-para\">Parent Councils came into force on 1<sup>st<\/sup> August 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The composition of the Parent Council, as determined by the Parent Forum, is a minimum of 4 parent members and a maximum of 8.\u00a0\u00a0 The Head teacher is the professional advisor to the Parent Council.<\/p>\n<p>The Parent Council\u2019s rights and duties include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>supporting the work of the school;<\/li>\n<li>representing the views of parents;<\/li>\n<li>consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest;<\/li>\n<li>promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community;<\/li>\n<li>fundraising;<\/li>\n<li>taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff;<\/li>\n<li>receiving reports from the head teacher and education authority; and<\/li>\n<li>receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses<\/li>\n<li>improving home school partnership and facilitating parental involvement<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the Head Teacher has a right and duty to attend all meetings of the Parent Council.
