Parent Councils came into force on 1st<\/sup> August 2007.<\/p>\n

The composition of the Parent Council, as determined by the Parent Forum, is a minimum of 4 parent members and a maximum of 8.\u00a0\u00a0 The Head teacher is the professional advisor to the Parent Council.<\/p>\n

The Parent Council\u2019s rights and duties include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. supporting the work of the school;<\/li>\n
  2. representing the views of parents;<\/li>\n
  3. consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest;<\/li>\n
  4. promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community;<\/li>\n
  5. fundraising;<\/li>\n
  6. taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff;<\/li>\n
  7. receiving reports from the head teacher and education authority; and<\/li>\n
  8. receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses<\/li>\n
  9. improving home school partnership and facilitating parental involvement<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.<\/p>\n

    It should be noted that the Head Teacher has a right and duty to attend all meetings of the Parent Council. Meetings of the Parent Council are open to members of the public.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
