Primary 6 are growing green fingers! We have been planting potatoes, tomatoes and herbs, the herbs we have started to grow are; chives, corriander, basil and sweet parsley. Already we have replanted our herbs in bigger pots.
We have been learning about the needs of plants, they need balanced conditions of water, air, food, heat and light. Plants need a good temperature, if it is too warm they will die. Plants take up nutrients and minerals from the soil. Plants stems are like straws taking up the water to the leaves. If a plant gets watered too often its leaves become rotten and mouldy and if it doesn’t get enough water the leaves turn brown and crunchy. Light gets captured by the leaves and keeps them green. Plants make food by the process of photosynthesis and this turns light into energy.
We are looking forward to harvesting our potatoes next month.
