Weather Topic

Primary 3 have been learning about weather, climate, habitats and how to care for our environment. We explored the question “What is weather and how does it affect Earth?” through a range of practical, creative and investigative activities.

The children investigated different types of weather by comparing information from books and digital texts. They developed their listening and talking skills by taking on the role of weather reporters, presenting weather forecasts and placing weather symbols on a map of Scotland.

As part of our investigations, the class learned how weather can be measured. They built and used simple weather instruments, including rain gauges, wind vanes and thermometers, to collect and record weather data. The children also enjoyed weather-themed games, including a weather reporter challenge.

To develop their understanding of environmental responsibility, the class explored the three r’s reduce, reuse and recycle. Through problem-solving activities and role play, they learned how recycling centres help to protect the environment by sorting and managing waste.

In literacy, the children considered how they could encourage others to care for the environment. They designed persuasive posters and leaflets promoting recycling and responsible use of resources. Through these activities, they learned how to communicate important environmental messages effectively.
