It was lovely to see all of you at parents evening and we are grateful for your continued support. The following is a brief overview of the learning which will take place in Primary 4\/3 this term.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Literacy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to follow the North Lanarkshire Active Literacy Programme to support learning in spelling, phonics, reading and writing. \u00a0Children will develop fluency and comprehension skills whilst exploring their novel and will complete a range of associated written tasks to deepen their understanding of the text.<\/p>\n<p><u>Monkeys<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to work on the Stage 4 Active Literacy Programme; exploring units 7 and 8 which will include phoneme representations \u2018ow\u2019 and \u2018oi\u2019.\u00a0 Furthermore, they will continue to apply a range of spelling strategies and rules to support their spelling of taught and unfamiliar words.<\/p>\n<p><u>Penguins<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to develop their phonological knowledge and spelling whilst focusing on the phonemes \u2018u, gn, t, dge, o, ch and ti\u2019 and their weekly common words.<\/p>\n<p><u>Writing<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will focus on narrative, explanation and persuasive genres and will utilise their learning across the curriculum in their written pieces.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Maths<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In numeracy, children will continue to develop their mental agility through Number Talks and will extend their knowledge of division and patterns and relationships.\u00a0 Furthermore, they will explore measure, angles and symmetry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>R.M.E.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This will be a very special term for the boys and girls in Primary 4 preparing for and celebrating their First Holy Communion.\u00a0 The children will also learn about Mary and deepen their understanding of the word of God and how to celebrate fully in the celebration of Mass.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Health &amp; Wellbeing<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Term 4, the children will develop their striking, fielding and athletics skills in preparation for Sports Day. \u00a0In addition, children will develop an understanding of the human body and of daily personal hygiene routines.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that our P.E. days are Mondays and Thursdays and we would appreciate if children could bring their full P.E. kit into school on a Monday and take it home on Friday.\u00a0 Furthermore, we would be grateful if children could refrain from wearing jewellery on P.E days.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Social Studies<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term our interdisciplinary learning will have an Enterprise theme and children will explore different types of jobs involved in running a business.
