{"id":2470,"date":"2019-01-23T17:24:14","date_gmt":"2019-01-23T17:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/stbrendansps\/?p=2470"},"modified":"2019-01-23T17:24:14","modified_gmt":"2019-01-23T17:24:14","slug":"primary-4-3-curriculum-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/stbrendansps\/2019\/01\/23\/primary-4-3-curriculum-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary 4\/3 Curriculum Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Parent\/Guardian,<\/p>\n<p>We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.\u00a0 We are now into our third term and have a very busy, fun filled term ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a brief overview of the learning that will be taking place within Primary 4\/3 this term.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Literacy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to follow the North Lanarkshire Active Literacy Programme to support learning in spelling, phonics, reading and writing.<\/p>\n<p><u>Monkeys<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to work on the Stage 4 Active Literacy Programme; exploring units 4-6 which will include phoneme representations \u2018oe, oo and f\u2019.\u00a0 Furthermore, they will continue to apply a range of spelling strategies and rules to support their spelling of taught and unfamiliar words.<\/p>\n<p><u>Penguins<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to develop their phonological knowledge and spelling whilst focusing on the phonemes \u2018se, c, ea, ou, ey, ie, oe, ough and y\u2019 and their weekly common words.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Green Group<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children are currently reading \u2018The Best Dog in the World\u2019 and will read \u2018Grey Friar\u2019s Bobby\u2019 later in the term.\u00a0 They will continue to utilise comprehension strategies whilst exploring each text.<\/p>\n<p><u>Red and Blue Groups<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to develop their fluency and comprehension skills whilst exploring a range of banded books both in class and at home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Writing<\/u><\/p>\n<p>This term we will focus on narrative, instructional and persuasive genres and children will apply their knowledge of the Victorians from our interdisciplinary topic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Numeracy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In numeracy, children will continue to extend their knowledge of number with a specific focus on multiplication, division and fractions.\u00a0 Children will extend their knowledge of various times tables and simple fractions and apply their learning to written calculations.\u00a0 Furthermore, they will develop their mental agility through Number Talks and will be given opportunities to work collaboratively.<\/p>\n<p>Children will develop their knowledge of money and data analysis through practical and interactive activities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>R.M.E.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This will be a very special term for the boys and girls in Primary 3 preparing for and celebrating their First Reconciliation and Primary 4 preparing to make their First Holy Communion.\u00a0 The children will receive workbooks which they will complete in class and at home.\u00a0 We would appreciate if workbooks could be returned by the date given so that children can continue their preparation in class.<\/p>\n<p>This term children will also learn about other world religions such as Judaism and the season of Lent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Health &amp; Wellbeing<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we will develop our gymnastics skills; focusing on flexibility, balance and movement.\u00a0 \u00a0In addition, we will focus on healthy eating and reflect on the importance of a well-balanced diet. We will consider the importance of exercise and the positive impact this has on our health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that our P.E. days are Mondays and Thursdays and we would appreciate if children could bring their full P.E. kit into school on a Monday and take it home on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Science<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we will explore Planet Earth; focusing on food chains and the relationship between plants and animals.\u00a0 Children will complete an investigation relating to the type of bugs found in certain environments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Social Studies<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term our interdisciplinary learning will focus on the Victorians.
