{"id":2297,"date":"2018-11-02T15:36:46","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T15:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/stbrendansps\/?p=2297"},"modified":"2018-11-02T15:36:46","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T15:36:46","slug":"p4-3-term-2-curriculum-letter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/stbrendansps\/2018\/11\/02\/p4-3-term-2-curriculum-letter\/","title":{"rendered":"P4\/3 Term 2 Curriculum Letter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Parent\/Carer,<\/p>\n<p>Primary 4\/3 have had a wonderful start to the year and are looking forward to our busy, fun filled term ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a brief overview of the learning that will be taking place within Primary 4\/3 this term.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Literacy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to follow the North Lanarkshire Active Literacy Programme to support learning in spelling, phonics, reading and writing.<\/p>\n<p><u>Monkeys<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to work on the Stage 4 Active Literacy Programme; exploring units 3 and 4 which will include phoneme representations \u2018ie\u2019 and \u2018oe\u2019.\u00a0 Furthermore, they will continue to apply a range of spelling strategies and rules to support their spelling of taught and unfamiliar words.<\/p>\n<p><u>Penguins<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to develop their phonological knowledge and spelling whilst focusing on the phonemes \u2018wa, th, ie, ve and g\u2019 and their weekly common words.<\/p>\n<p><u>Green Group\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children are currently reading \u2018Bullies at School\u2019 and will move on to read \u2018The Owl Who is Afraid of the Dark\u2019 later in the term.\u00a0 They will continue to utilise comprehension strategies whilst exploring each text.<\/p>\n<p><u>Red and Blue Groups<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Children will continue to develop their fluency and comprehension skills whilst exploring a range of banded books both in class and at home.<\/p>\n<p><u>Writing<\/u><\/p>\n<p>This term we will focus on the genres of recount and narrative and children will apply their knowledge about national disasters from our interdisciplinary topic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Numeracy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In numeracy, children will continue to extend their knowledge of number with a specific focus on addition and subtraction. \u00a0Squares will work with numbers to 1000 and circles will work with numbers to 100.\u00a0 The children will develop their mental agility through Number Talks and will be given opportunities to work collaboratively.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, children will develop their knowledge of shape whilst exploring a range of 2D and 3D shapes and observing and comparing their properties.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>R.M.E.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the month of November children will learn about eternal life and will remember and pray for those who have died.\u00a0 They will extend their knowledge of Advent and the Christmas story, identifying signs and symbols linked to the liturgical season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Health &amp; Wellbeing<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we will develop our dance skills by observing different styles of dance and creating our own dance sequences.\u00a0 We will also improve our balance and flexibility through participation in yoga sessions.\u00a0 \u00a0In addition, we will explore our mental and emotional wellbeing, considering ways in which our emotions can impact our behavior and how we can manage these.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that our P.E. days are Mondays and Thursdays and we would appreciate if children could bring their full P.E. kit into school on a Monday and take it home on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Science<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term we will explore topical science focusing on news relating to natural disasters.\u00a0 Children will identify the impact of natural disasters and develop an awareness of their own impact on the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Social Studies<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term our interdisciplinary learning will focus on \u2018Natural Disasters\u2019.
