Me and My Senses – Primary 1

We have been learning all about how our senses help us to make sense of the world around us. We have learned about our sense of sight and about the names for different parts of the eye. We have discussed the importance of our sight in helping to keep us safe and have talked about how those with poor eye sight overcome their difficulties.

This week we have been looking more closely at our sense of hearing. We have played lots of games to show how our ears help us to hear different types of sounds and how they help us to work out where a sound is coming from. We have also discussed how our hearing keeps us safe and how important it is to look after our ears to help us continue to hear sounds all around us.

Below is a short clip of some of us performing our senses song. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoy singing it!

‘Hope’ – An Anti Bullying Production

Take Away Theatre Company joined us in St Bernard’s to perform their anti bullying production ‘Hope’.

It told the story of a successful pop star who returned to her hometown for the first time in years and experienced a chance encounter with an old classmate. This brought back painful memories of the abuse and bullying she had suffered at the hands of her classmate.

This was a wonderful performance depicting and strengthening the important anti bullying message that has recently been examined and explored in classes across the school. The children throughly enjoyed the performance and it undoubtedly provoked a range of feelings within them – as you’ll see in the pictures! Primary 4-7 explored this all important topic further, in the follow up workshops provided.

A Catch Up With P6

Primary 6 have been working extremely hard this term in art looking at the artist Gustav Klimt. We were intrigued by the ‘Tree Of Life’ and how it represents the circle of life. We looked at how he created the tree branches and the patterns within the trees. Have a look at some of our fantastic work!

We have also been exploring some science experiments in our topic ‘The Demon Dentist’. We looked at everyday drinks and how much sugar content is in each drink. We couldn’t believe the results and how much were in each drink.

We also carried out an eggcelent experiment to see what sugar can do to the enamel on our teeth. It was shell shocking results!

We cannot wait to read the rest of our Demon Dentist topic and find out more about how to keep our teeth healthy!

A catch up with Primary 4!

Primary 4 have been having lots of fun the past few weeks in the lead up to the summer holidays. They have created rain gauges as part of their project during our rainforest topic to measure the amount of rainfall in Coatbridge compared to the amount in the rainforest. We also enjoyed a wonderful day out with the whole school for our end of year trip at Blair Drummond Safari Park. The boys and girls had lots of fun seeing different animals, playing in the park and getting on the boat to chimpanzee island. A great few has been had by all!

I have loved being Primary 4’s teacher this year and I hope all of the children have a fabulous summer holiday! From, Miss Christie
