Of utmost importance across all stages of the school is that St Bartholomew\u2019s pupils experience success when they are learning Spanish by providing them with a range of enjoyable, practical activities.\u00a0 One of our key aims is to develop pupils\u2019 ability to use and enjoy Spanish in situations as close to real life as possible.\u00a0 This will develop the children\u2019s ability to use Spanish for a range of relevant purposes in work and leisure throughout their life.<\/p>\n
Spanish is introduced in St Bartholomew\u2019s from Primary 1.\u00a0 At early and first level, teachers build on the children\u2019s natural curiosity for sounds and words, and their strong desire to communicate. Activities include playing games, singing songs, carrying out simple instructions, and playing with simple poetry and rhyme. In this way they can begin to be enthusiastic, confident language learners from the outset.<\/p>\n
Information and communication technology is used to enhance teaching and learning, and to provide real-life contexts that motivate pupils and help them see genuine purpose in learning Spanish and other modern languages.<\/p>\n
By the end of Primary 7, the majority of St Bartholomew\u2019s pupils will have learned sufficient Spanish to be able to:<\/p>\n

- take part in simple conversations and transaction<\/li>\n
- understand classroom instructions and personal information<\/li>\n
- enjoy listening to a story, song or poem<\/li>\n
- read aloud a simple text<\/li>\n
