Young children learn through play and they love nothing more than helping adults around the house. \"s1\"<\/a>Why not involve them in things you are doing around the house, ask them questions and turn the experience into practical learning.<\/p>\n

Take advantage of the weather by trying out some of these activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Making snowballs<\/span><\/strong>Counting the balls as you go. \u00a0How many have we made? \u00a0If we make another one how many will there be? \u00a0If we add \/ takeaway some how many will there be?<\/p>\n

Dressing for winter<\/span><\/strong>Get your child to tell you about all the things you need to wear to keep warm. \u00a0They could draw a picture of themselves and their family all dressed up for the weather. \u00a0Ask questions for example – Who has the biggest boots? Who has the smallest?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Making shapes in the snow<\/span><\/strong>Can you make a circle, square etc with a stick or with your footprints in the snow? \u00a0Who can make the biggest, smallest?<\/td>\nFeeding the birds<\/span><\/strong>Talk about what can be done to help the birds during winter. \u00a0Make a fat ball or a seed cake for them.<\/p>\n

Freezing and Melting<\/span><\/strong>Collect some snow \/ ice in a container and bring it indoors. \u00a0Talk about what happens to it when it heats up. \u00a0What happens if we put a bowl of water outside when it is freezing?<\/p>\n

Drawing a snowy scene<\/span><\/strong>Look out of the window – discuss what can be seen. \u00a0Draw or paint a picture or make a collage.<\/p>\n
