You can number each step and draw a simple image to show what is happening.<\/p>\n<p>Example,<\/p>\n<p>Step 1: Steal feathers from the nesting birds.<\/p>\n<p>Step 2: Steal every item of material that we can find.<\/p>\n<p>Step 3: &#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>And so on. One of those appearances is described in Luke&#8217;s Gospel.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"passage-display\"><span class=\"passage-display-bcv\">Luke 24:13-35<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"passage-display-version\">International Children\u2019s Bible (ICB)<\/span><\/h1>\n<h3><span id=\"en-ICB-25888\" class=\"text Luke-24-13\">On the Road to Emmaus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"first-line-none\"><span class=\"text Luke-24-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>That same day two of Jesus\u2019 followers were going to a town named Emmaus. It is about seven miles from Jerusalem.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25889\" class=\"text Luke-24-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>They were talking about everything that had happened.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25890\" class=\"text Luke-24-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>While they were discussing these things, Jesus himself came near and began walking with them.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25891\" class=\"text Luke-24-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>(They were not allowed to recognise Jesus.)\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25892\" class=\"text Luke-24-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Then he said,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhat are these things you are talking about while you walk?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Luke-24-17\">The two followers stopped. Their faces were very sad.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25893\" class=\"text Luke-24-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>The one named Cleopas answered, \u201cYou must be the only one in Jerusalem who does not know what just happened there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ICB-25894\" class=\"text Luke-24-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhat are you talking about?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Luke-24-19\">The followers said, \u201cIt is about Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet from God to all the people. He said and did many powerful things.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25895\" class=\"text Luke-24-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Our leaders and the leading priests gave him up to be judged and killed. They nailed him to a cross.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25896\" class=\"text Luke-24-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>But we were hoping that he would free the Jews. It is now the third day since this happened.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25897\" class=\"text Luke-24-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And today some women among us told us some amazing things. Early this morning they went to the tomb,\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25898\" class=\"text Luke-24-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>but they did not find his body there. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels. The angels said that Jesus was alive!\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25899\" class=\"text Luke-24-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>So some of our group went to the tomb, too. They found it just as the women said, but they did not see Jesus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ICB-25900\" class=\"text Luke-24-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cYou are foolish and slow to realise what is true. You should believe everything the prophets said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25901\" class=\"text Luke-24-26\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>They said that the Christ must suffer these things before he enters his glory.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25902\" class=\"text Luke-24-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus began to explain everything that had been written about himself in the Scriptures. He started with Moses, and then he talked about what all the prophets had said about him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ICB-25903\" class=\"text Luke-24-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>They came near the town of Emmaus, and Jesus acted as if he did not plan to stop there.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25904\" class=\"text Luke-24-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>But they begged him, \u201cStay with us. It is late; it is almost night.\u201d So he went in to stay with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ICB-25905\" class=\"text Luke-24-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus sat down with them and took some bread. He gave thanks for the food and divided it. Then he gave it to them.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25906\" class=\"text Luke-24-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>And then, they were allowed to recognise Jesus. But when they saw who he was, he disappeared.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25907\" class=\"text Luke-24-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>They said to each other, \u201cWhen Jesus talked to us on the road, it felt like a fire burning in us. It was exciting when he explained the true meaning of the Scriptures.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ICB-25908\" class=\"text Luke-24-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>So the two followers got up at once and went back to Jerusalem. There they found the 11 apostles and others gathered.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-ICB-25909\" class=\"text Luke-24-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>They were saying, \u201cThe Lord really has risen from death! He showed himself to Simon.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ICB-25910\" class=\"text Luke-24-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Then the two followers told what had happened on the road. They talked about how they recognised Jesus when he divided the bread.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Imagine that you were one of those followers of Jesus that he appeared to on the road to Emmaus.
