‘Read to Succeed’ Authors Tour

Under the Scottish Attainment Challenge we in NLC  launched a ‘Read to Succeed’ initiative aimed at primary to high school transition. The main aim is to make reading for pleasure a priority. All the S1 pupils will be getting a visit by an author. The details of our visits are listed below:

Tuesday 11th September  – Award winning author, Alan Gibbons

Classes: 1F, 1G, 1H, 1J, 1K

Tuesday 18th September – Award winning author, Philip Caveney/Danny Weston

Classes: 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E

The pupils enjoyed the author talks and asked some excellent questions.

The launch of the ‘Read to Succeed’ Authors Tour was held in Coatbridge High School on 5th September with the keynote speaker being award winning author Theresa Breslin. All the pupils who attended received a signed copy of one of her books.

The closing event was held in Cardinal Newman High School on Thursday 20th September with the speaker being award winning author Bali Rai. All the pupils who attended received a signed copy of one of his books.

Winners

‘Libraries Week’ was 9th-14th October 2017. When a pupil visited the School Library they were able to enter the prize draw just by putting their name in the box. Two winners were drawn at random and they were:

Roisin O’Pray       1G1

Gerrard chose £10 National Book Tokens and Roisin chose a book and a £5 National Book Token. They also got a ‘Goody Bag’ with Bookmarks, pencils, notelets, sweets.

World Book Day 2017

To celebrate ‘World Book Day 2017’, the Library ran two competitions. The Winners were:

‘Books Quiz’ competition – Kameron Lambe  1H2

They both chose books from a selection and an Easter Egg as their prizes.
