{"id":614,"date":"2015-11-06T13:57:21","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T13:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/standrewshs\/?page_id=614"},"modified":"2015-11-06T13:57:21","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T13:57:21","slug":"hymn-to-st-andrew","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/standrewshs\/hymn-to-st-andrew\/","title":{"rendered":"Hymn to St Andrew"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Hymn to St Andrew<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">When Christ our Lord to Andrew cried:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u201cCome, thou and follow Me,\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The fisher left his net beside the Sea of Galilee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">To teach the truth his Master taught,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">to tread the path he trod<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Was all his will, and thus he brought<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">unnumbered souls to God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">When Andrew\u2019s hour had come, and he<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">was doomed like Christ to die,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">He kissed his cross exultingly,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">and this his loving cry;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u201cO noble Cross! O precious wood!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">I long have yearned for thee;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">uplift me to my only good<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">who died on thee for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The faith that Andrew taught once shone<br \/>\no\u2019er all this kingdom fair;<br \/>\nthe cross that Jesus died upon<br \/>\nwas honoured everywhere.<br \/>\nBut times once changed and Andrew\u2019s name<br \/>\nwas for a while forgot;<br \/>\nthe cross, though set in kingly crown,<br \/>\nbecame a sign of shame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">St Andrew now in bliss above,<br \/>\nthy fervent prayers renew<br \/>\nthat Scotland yet again may love<br \/>\nthe faith, entire and true;<br \/>\nthat I the cross allotted me<br \/>\nmay bear with patient love! \u2018<br \/>\nTwill lift me, as it lifted thee,<br \/>\nto reign with Christ above.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/standrewshs\/files\/2015\/11\/St-Andrew.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-612\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/standrewshs\/files\/2015\/11\/St-Andrew.png\" alt=\"St Andrew\" width=\"226\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hymn to St Andrew \u00a0 When Christ our Lord to Andrew cried: \u201cCome, thou and follow Me,\u201d The fisher left his net beside the Sea of Galilee.
