{"id":363,"date":"2015-09-22T17:20:26","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T17:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/standrewshs\/?page_id=363"},"modified":"2016-03-01T19:02:06","modified_gmt":"2016-03-01T19:02:06","slug":"ucas","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/standrewshs\/ucas\/","title":{"rendered":"UCAS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucas.com\"><strong>Universities and Colleges Admissions Service<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>UCAS<\/strong>) is a UK-based charity whose main role is providing the application process for almost all British universities.<\/p>\n<p>Some of UCAS&#8217; services include several online application portals, a number of search tools, and free information and advice aimed at a number of key audiences, such as students considering higher education, students with pending applications to higher education institutes, parents and legal guardians of applicants and pre-applicants, school and Further Education college staff involved in helping students apply, and providers of higher education (universities and HE colleges).<\/p>\n<p>While UCAS is renowned for its undergraduate application service (the main UCAS scheme), it also operates a number of other admissions services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CUKAS (Conservatoires UK Admissions Service) \u2013 for performing arts at a UK conservatoire<\/li>\n<li>UTT (UCAS Teacher Training) \u2013 for postgraduate teacher training schemes<\/li>\n<li>UKPASS (UK Postgraduate Application and Statistical Service) \u2013 for some postgraduate courses<\/li>\n<li>UCAS Progress \u2013 for post-16 education and training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pupils will start the process of applying in early September for entry to University the following August\/September.\u00a0 The process should be finished by December to allow time for checking of forms before they are sent off.<\/p>\n<p>St Andrew\u2019s High School provides a vast amount of support to our aspiring pupils.\u00a0 Each pupil has a personal tutor who helps guide them through the whole process, from registering to UCAS right through to the final draft of the application.\u00a0 The form is checked by tutors and then by the UCAS Coordinator before it is sent off.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils are also encouraged to attend University Open Days and the Higher Convention event.\u00a0 This event allows pupils to go round all University stalls and ask questions regarding courses, entry requirements and any other question they may have regarding University.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils are directed towards helpful websites, such as, My World of Work, Planit Plus, UCAS and the University website too.\u00a0 All of the website provide extra support and guidance.
