Work Experience

Every year S4 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a one week work experience placement.
Through this placement students, will have the opportunity to develop an insight into the world of work and gain a number of skills which will help to equip them for life after school.
North Lanarkshire’s Workit database offers a number of placements available across a variety of different industries. Pupils are also encouraged to find their own “self-found” placements.

Placements

St Andrew’s High School has very strong relationships with the associated Primary Schools and as such, they accommodate a large number of S4 pupils for work experience. We have also established relationships with Arnold Clark and Wheatley Housing Association in Glasgow who provide us with work experience placements on a yearly basis.
In the past, pupils have undertaken placements in a range of industries for example:
Retail, Law, Dental Practices, Veterinary Practices, Manufacturing and Hair and Beauty.

Qualification

The Work Experience programme will be delivered through a number of Workshops or PSHE lessons, to ensure that all Students are fully prepared for their placement. Not only will this be an invaluable experience for pupils in its own right, but it will also afford them the opportunity to gain a SQA Enterprise and Employability qualification recognised by employers.
