Weekly Update: 26th – 30th November

Patronal Feast Day

We we honoured to have Bishop Toal in to celebrate our Patronal Feast Mass on St Andrew’s Day with our S1 and S6 students.

We also had a fundraising Leg Waxing in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice.  Thank you to all the staff & senior pupils who took part, the pain they experienced was definitely worth it for such a good cause.

Strictly Come Dancing

The sixth instalment of St Andrew’s does Strictly Come Dancing took place in aid of our Malawi project.  After 8 weeks of intense training it was another spectacular showcase of talent from both staff.  Well done to all our 12 couples for dancing so well and putting on such a great show. Well done to Penny Kelly & Mr Welsh for placing 3rd and to Tyler Quinn & Miss Clelland for finishing in 2nd position.  Huge congratulations to Dylan Quinn & Miss McNicol, our Strictly Come Dancing Champions 2018. What a performance they put on, full of energy, entertainment as well as real technical ability.

We thank everyone who came to support our dancers and our Malawi project. Thanks to our judges Mr Cassidy, Ms McDermott, Mr Cavanagh, Mrs Gray & Mr Roy and to our amazing presenters Mr Mullen & Mr Healy.

A final huge thanks go to the person responsible for putting the whole show together. Not just responsible for organising the event but the choreographer and support for all our “Diva Dancers”. So a special thanks to Miss Banks for putting together yet another spectacular show.

Eco Group

We we delighted to receive a cheque of  £500 from Taylor Wimpey as part of their ongoing commitment to working in partnership with local communities.  The funding provided by Taylor Wimpey will go towards materials and support for an environmental art project in school.

Around 16 S3 pupils are taking part in the project, which will see them create an awareness video of the devastating effects that plastic is having on the environment.  The pupils have been collecting plastic bottles, which they will then use to make large pieces of artwork to be displayed around their school.

We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor Wimpey and we can’t thank them enough for their generous donation.  To find out more about the charities and organisations that Taylor Wimpey supports, please visit www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/media-centre/news.

Glasgow Caledonian School Connect

S5 students took part in a speed networking workshop with the School Connect team from GLasgow Caledonian University.  The aim of the session was to help pupils progress and transition to study during World Access to Higher Education Day.
