{"id":69,"date":"2015-06-19T09:33:13","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T09:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/anntest3\/?page_id=69"},"modified":"2020-04-02T13:33:37","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T13:33:37","slug":"uniform","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/sikeside\/uniform\/","title":{"rendered":"Uniform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong>Pupils in Sikeside are encouraged to wear their uniform.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> The uniform consists of;<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong>grey trousers or skirt<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> white shirt<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> school tie<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> or<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> red polo shirt<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> royal blue sweatshirt.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong>School uniform bearing the school badge can be purchased from<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <strong> Scot Crest<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">All North Lanarkshire schools must have a dress code which encourages pupils to dress in a way which is appropriate to attendance at school.\u00a0 This dress code must not lead to direct or indirect discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender or disability.\u00a0 Prior to drawing up the dress code the parents\/carers, pupils and staff were fully consulted.\u00a0 It is the expectation of Education and Families that parents\/carers will be keen to support the dress code and written agreement may be sought.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Clothing which is unacceptable in school under any circumstances.\u00a0 Includes items which:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">could potentially encourage factions(e.g. football colours) could cause offence (e.g. anti-religious symbolism or political slogans)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">could cause health and safety difficulties such as loose fitting clothing, dangling earrings and other potentially dangerous jewellery<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">are of flammable materials which may be a danger in certain classes (e.g. shell suits)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">could cause damage to flooring<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">carry advertising in particular for alcohol or tobacco,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">could be used to inflict injury to other pupils or to be used by others to do so.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Parents\\carers in receipt of a clothing grant from the Council will be encouraged to purchase items which are in accordance with the school dress code.\u00a0 Approval of any requests for such grants in other circumstances are at the discretion of the Executive Director of Education and Families.\u00a0 Information and application forms may be obtained<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">from any school or First Stop Shops. Parents are entitled to receive a clothing grant if they are in receipt of any of the following benefits: Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (income based).\u00a0 Employment &amp; Support Allowance (income related), Universal Credit, housing benefit, council tax rebate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Whilst in general terms it would not normally be the policy of the authority to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0exclude a pupil from school solely on the basis of his\/her dress, persistent refusal to respond to a reasonable dress code may be deemed to be a serious challenge to the head teacher\u2019s authority and to be detrimental to the wellbeing of the whole school community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">In such circumstances a head teacher may justify the use of the school discipline procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Council wishes to minimise claims arising from the loss of pupils\u2019 clothing and\/or personal belongings.\u00a0 Parents\/carers are asked to assist in this area by ensuring that valuable items and unnecessarily expensive items of clothing, jewellery, etc., are not brought to school.\u00a0 Parents should note that any claims submitted to cover the loss of such things are likely to be met only where the authority can be shown to have been negligent.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pupils in Sikeside are encouraged to wear their uniform.
