What happens?
The Tin Woodman saves the Queen of the Field Mice from a wild cat. To thank him, she orders her mice to save the Lion, who was still sleeping in the poppy field. The Tin Woodman made a truck to carry the Lion and the mice pulled the Lion out of the poppy field and waited for him to wake up. The Queen of the Field Mice offers her help for the future.
Have a think ..
Take a moment to think about these questions:
Is the Tin Woodman right to kill the wild cat for hunting the field mouse?
The Queen of the Field Mice says “come out into the field and call, and we shall hear you and come to your assistance” How could the mice hear them calling?
Think about how people see mice. Do you think of mice as pests or as fascinating creatures?
Focus on mice
In this chapter the Tin Woodsman saves the Queen of the Field Mice and in return all the other field mice help to rescue the sleeping lion.
