{"id":2134,"date":"2017-05-14T15:09:47","date_gmt":"2017-05-14T15:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ravenswoodps\/?page_id=2134"},"modified":"2020-05-18T13:01:53","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T13:01:53","slug":"modern-languages","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ravenswoodps\/curriculum-for-excellence\/modern-languages\/","title":{"rendered":"Modern Languages"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"post-895\" class=\"post-895 page type-page status-publish hentry\">\n<div class=\"single-entry-content\">\n<p>Learning a new language encourages children and young people to broaden their horizons as they explore the language and its associated culture.<\/p>\n<p>Through the learning of a new language pupils:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>gain a deeper understanding of their first language and appreciate the richness and interconnected nature of languages<\/li>\n<li>enhance their understanding and enjoyment of their own and other cultures and gain insights into other ways of thinking and other views of the world<\/li>\n<li>develop skills that they can use and enjoy in work and leisure throughout\u00a0 life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The study of language plays an important role in all language learning and the development of literacy skills.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils develop and extend literacy skills when they have opportunities to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>communicate, collaborate and build relationships<\/li>\n<li>reflect on and explain literacy and thinking skills, using feedback to help them improve and sensitively provide useful feedback for others<\/li>\n<li>engage with and create a wide range of texts in different media, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by ICT<\/li>\n<li>develop an understanding of what is special, vibrant and valuable about their own and other cultures and their languages<\/li>\n<li>explore the richness and diversity of language, how it can affect them and the wide range of ways in which they can be creative<\/li>\n<li>extend and enrich vocabulary through listening, talking, watching and reading<\/li>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learning a new language encourages children and young people to broaden their horizons as they explore the language and its associated culture.
