Captaincy

One important part of the beginning of the return to school is the selection of the new School Captains. This year, a total of ten hopefuls applied for the role, all of them strong contenders in their own rights, but only two would come out on top.

The selection process – adapted to fit our current coronavirus restrictions – consisted of two stages. First, applicants were required to create a brief presentation, in which they detailed their characteristics and achievements that made them suitable for the job, which was followed by a vote from the student body and staff. A limited few then progressed through to the interview stage to be thoroughly scrutinised by a panel of judges.

As a result of the rigorous process, we are proud to announce that Alastair Condie and Georgia Knox have been selected. Both are exemplary students and rightly deserve the role of Captain. I’m sure we can all agree that they will meet both our expectations and the high bar set by their predecessors, last year’s captains, Douglas and Elise.

A quick word from Georgia told us that:

I’m so happy to be one of Greenfaulds new school captains and can’t wait to get started. We’re hoping to kick off the pupil Parliament over the next few weeks and already have lots of exciting plans for the rest of the year.

Although unsuccessful, the remaining applicants will still be involved in other leadership roles, such as the committees, and have all been offered places in the Captain’s Cabinet, ensure their admirable attributes are not put to waste.

Following the resounding success of last year’s debut Pupil Parliament, the first task Georgia and Alastair – along with the leadership teams – will face is the challenge of figuring out how to adapt the Parliament to follow the current guidelines and restrictions.

We are lucky to have such promising school captains and I’m sure we are all eager and excited to see what they will achieve during their final year at GHS.
