Greenfaulds High School Pupil Blog

Our Achievements

Ewan McKenna

When it comes to sporting achievements, Greenfaulds has them in abundance. These achievements usually come in the form of football players or athletic stars. However, one pupil has been achieving in something less common. Fifth year pupil Ewan McKenna has been experiencing great success in karting. In the second round of the Rowrah Club Championship, Ewan won all three heats, and the final, with the fastest lap in each race in a close grid of just seven. He is now sitting in second place in this championship’s standings, just two points behind the winner with one round to go. In the second round of the Larkhall Club Championships Ewan unfortunately experienced a round of bad heats which put him in eleventh place for the final. However, he managed to turn it around and reach fifth place on a close grid of eighteen. At the PF International Kart Circuit in Grantham, Ewan started in twelfth position and made it up to eighth out of twenty-three – but sadly was forced to retire after his kart broke down. Congratulations Ewan, we wish you the best of luck with your karting in the future!

Sean Lynch

One pupil at Greenfaulds High School who is well known for his charity and fundraising efforts is Sean Lynch of sixth year. As co-leader of the social justice committee, Sean has been actively coming up with new ideas to raise money for Cash for Kids – something especially difficult this year with the Covid-19 restrictions. So far, to fundraise for various charities, Sean has organised a race night, a lady’s night, a quiz, and football matches to name but a few events. In recognition of all of his hard work, Sean was presented with the Greenfaulds’ fundraising award. Well done Sean, it is very well deserved!

Katie Little & Leah Kane

During lockdown, the achievements did not stop. In the style of Covid-19, street dance competitions were held virtually over zoom calls live-streamed across social media allowing dancers to participate from the safety of their own homes. Competing in the twelve and under, intermediate-advanced category, Katie Little in 2SK was just one of the talented dancers in our school who performed both solos and duos at SOAR and UDO events. The virtual nature of the competitions was very nerve-wracking for Katie as you can imagine but, she still performed very well! Katie brought back 5th place in a duo for her first performance. However, from there Katie only got better – after performing a duo alongside Leah Kane in 2BR, the two brought home 4thplace. As Katie built up her courage, she pushed herself to take part in a solo and amazingly placed 4th. Katie and Leah, we are very proud of you both, well done!
