Scottish Studies

We’ve been having a worthwhile in-service day, so far. One exciting development is the introduction of the SQA Scottish Studies award for our pupils beginning next session.

Pupils will study a selection of units from the following areas:

One mandatory unit – Scotland in Focus

Three units selected from:

  • Language and Literature
  • Society and Environment
  • Arts and Culture
  • Business, Industry and Employment

Portland Laureates

We’re proud to announce that three of our pupils have been published by Young Writers in their latest anthology titled, “Spine Chillers: Scottish Tales”. Well done to Casper, Melissa and William. This continues what is becoming something of a trend for our young writers, adding to the number of our pupils who have been published in different anthologies in recent years.

We’re in the process of ordering copies of the anthology to present to the pupils’ parents/carers.

Girls’ Success at St Patrick’s Primary

Childcare Work Experience

SPPS

Three of our third year pupils are currently gaining  work experience in St Patrick’s Primary School Nursery. We are absolutely delighted that the Head Teacher of St Patrick’s has spoken of the girls’ contributions and attitudes in glowing terms.

We’re very proud that Chelsea, Melissa and Shannon are representing the school so positively in the community.

We are very happy to be working with St Patrick’s Primary as one of our partners. The current Portland High School building was formerly St Patrick’s Primary.  The new primary school was built on its current site adjacent to Dunbeth Park in 1973.

Incidentally, we are currently working on a history of the Portland High School building and it will be appearing on the website soon.

St Andrew’s Hospice News

Hospice Logo

We were delighted to receive commendations from St Andrew’s Hospice for the money we raised last year. Our two certificates reflect the money raised during our Christmas Lunch and the money raised by Mrs Morris.

StAndrewsCerts

An impressive sum raised by all pupils and staff.

StAndrewsCerts1

Fantastic individual fundraising by our own Mrs Morris.

A cheque was presented to a representative from the Hospice at our Christmas Lunch in December 2015.

We are also pleased to announce that one of our Portland High School pupils has become a St Andrew’s Hospice Ambassador. Shannon Bungard will be working closely with the Hospice to help promote the work it does and to help us (and others) in fundraising for this great local charity.
