Why Play Pedagogy?

Realising the Ambition

Scotland’s National Practice Guidance – Realising the Ambition was released in 2020 and replaces the document Building the Curriculum 2: Active Learning in the Early Years. It emphasises the importance of examining Child Development and the interaction, experiences and spaces we provide. It highlights the need for some consistency across the Early Level, which straddles Early Years and Primary One in order to promote smooth transitions and to best meet the developmental stage and needs of young children.

Child Development

Play is an integral part of healthy childhood development. There are many things that children need to understand and develop in order to thrive in this modern world. These 6 aspects of child development have been proven through research to be amongst the most important parts of a child’s development and are necessary not just for learning but for survival and flourishing.
