We use Fred the frog to help teach phonics. More information on our Read, Write, Inc. phonics programme can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ruthmiskin.com\/parents\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Reading<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Children read books at an appropriate level and then complete tasks to ensure understanding.<\/p>\n<p>In the upper school, children use 6 different strategies to allow them to analyse the text: metalinguistics, visualisation, prior knowledge, main ideas, inference and summary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Writing<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Children are given many opportunities to write throughout the curriculum.\u00a0 They also take part in a weekly taught writing lesson which focuses on a particular genre; e.g. instructions, narrative, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Children also undertake weekly spelling and grammar activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Children engage in daily literacy lessons which include reading, writing, talking and listening.\u00a0 We follow Read, Write, Inc. programme in P1-3 and Active Literacy in P4- P7.
