There are two Junior Road Safety Officers at Plains Primary – one from P6 and another from P7.  It is the role of the JRSOs to promote road safety throughout the school.  The JRSOs follow a yearly planner that is prepared by North Lanarkshire Council.  They have monthly activities to complete.

Their activities may involve promoting an aspect of road safety education at assembly, or, organising a competition relating to road safety.  The JRSOs are also members of the Travel Plan Committee within the joint campus and this involves meeting termly to ensure that pupil journeys to the school campus are being made safely.

The JRSOs have recently been involved in meetings with the local councillor.  He has supported their enthusiasm to complete work on a new foot path in Plains and in make structural changes to the crossing patrol area at the pupil entrance.

Since August, the JRSO have also been responsible for organising the WOW programme.  This involves ensuring that classes are tracking how pupils travel to school on a daily basis and awarding badges to pupils who are walking at least once a week to school.
