We have been learning about the importance of Fairtrade. We have completed acrostic poems and used factfiles to learn new facts about it.
Did you know that in the U.K. 1 in every 3 bananas sold is Fairtrade?!
We also enjoyed tasting some Fairtrade chocolate. Some of us tasted dark chocolate for the first time. We mostly preferred the milk chocolate or chocolate covered raisins!

This week, p6/5 have been having fun while practising their measuring skills.
We have been focussing on measuring in mm, cm and m.
Some groups have been using their multiplication and place value knowledge to covert between units of measure.

We had a Japanese themed afternoon making ‘Children’s Day’ Koinobori (Carp Fish streamers) and trying sushi – it’s not everybody’s new favourite food but great effort for trying it!

It’s been a busy month for us in P6/5.
We are enjoying learning about Japan and have created a fantastic display wall with our Japanese writing. We also watched a clip today showing a major difference between Japanese schools and Ladywell!
Some pupils in the class were quite keen to start serving the lunches!
In Indoor PE we have been working on Gymnastics sequences and assessing our partners – we are looking for balance, flight and rotation.
We have been discussing our Local Community and the events/clubs available to young people in Motherwell. We created fantastic leaflets to advertise clubs available to us as homework – I was very impressed with the amount of effort the pupils put into creating their leaflets!
We are learning Spanish in P6/5 and can have a conversation with a partner to greet them & introduce ourselves – ¡Bien hecho! Hiciste un excelente trabajo.

Today in P6/5 we created Scots Dinosaurs.
We used our knowledge of Scots language and suffixes to give ‘oor’ dinosaurs names and write short stories of what they did.
Some examples are:
The Nae Bother O’saurus
The Wee Beltersaurus
The Mingin’ Eejit Dactyl
The Nessie Neep O’raptor
and Wee Bonnie Scary Saurus.
Everyone did really well and hopefully will now be able to blether away using more Scots words tonight!
We also listened to some Burns poetry and discussed what happens at a Burns supper. Some of us are having Haggis for our dinner tonight.
Below is a link to a recipe that you could use for any left over Haggis you might have and also one for some Scone Pizzas!
Enjoy!

We have had a busy first week back with lots of new learning taking place.
Our star pencil this week was Adam Hakeem for his increased confidence to share ideas with the class. Well done Adam!
In taught writing we wrote our highlights of 2017 and some of the things we hope to achieve in 2018.
We have been learning how to read analogue clocks, how to calculate durations of time and how to read and interpret timetables.
Below are some pictures of our time activities.
