Uniform Sale Profits

As part of our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle topic this term we sorted and sold Pre-loved school uniforms.

We made an absolutely amazing £129.08!

As a reward, the class had a fun morning outside with ice-lollies and a selection of yummy fruit. We used the extra time to play football and dance to the Greatest Showman soundtrack!

The remainder of the money will be used to purchase UNICEF gifts to support children and families in other countries.

This morning, we worked in pairs to select the items we thought would help the most people. We had £106.50 and tried to select many items linked to learning and play.

One team’s list will be selected at random and purchased via the UNICEF website.

Watch this space for the selected list and what was purchased!

Well done P6/5.

Upcycling Homework Project

As a Term 4 Homework Project P6/5 were asked to upcycle an item found in their home.  Find something useless and make it useful again!  I’m sure you’ll agree they all did extremely well – fantastic ideas, P6/5…well done!

Healthy cooking!

This morning, we all got the opportunity to create a healthy and tasty snack.

The Primary 5s made pizzas with Mrs White and the 6s made orange and oat flapjacks with Mrs Steel.

We all enjoyed it very much!

UNICEF/Soccer Aid Playground Challenge

This week we planned obstacle courses for the Primary 2s to enjoy.

We have done this as part of Soccer Aid/UNICEF’s playground challenge.  This links in perfectly with our Rights Respecting School efforts as it highlights Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child   ‘Every child has the right to play and rest’.

It was wonderful to see the 6/5s encouraging and helping the infants and they should be very proud of their efforts.

MACA Project

This morning, we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in North Lanarkshire’s MACA Project.

This was a really interesting way to learn about money and the importance of not overspending.

Everyone who took part was awarded a certificate and a pen.

We also had some winners from the Quiz.

Alex answered the questions the quickest, followed closely by Hannah then Lana.

Well done everyone!

Outdoor Classroom Day

Today was Outdoor Classroom day and children all across the country were taking their learning outside.

P6/5 headed outdoors to develop their data handling skills and to support the P2s in their learning.

The sun was shining and we all had a blast gathering and using natural materials to create bar charts and graphs.

Some of the children said their favourite part was getting to work with different people, others said they enjoyed helping the infants. Almost everyone said they preferred it to drawing a graph indoors!

Everyone was so very responsible and should be very proud of the example they set to the little ones.

Well done P6/5!

Cycling!

On Tuesday some of us got to race two laps of the cycling tour series route.

It was a wonderful day and the whole school came out to sheer them on.

Go team Ladywell!

Reduce Reuse Recycle

P6/5 have been very busy getting crayons ready for melting – first job was sorting them into colours & taking the paper off!  Hopefully all the classes will have recycled crayons ready to use soon!

British Science Week!

Today we have been enjoying learning about British Science Week.

We completed science crosswords and a comprehension about science week.  This year the theme is ‘Exploration and Discovery’.

We had fun exploring the effect that washing up liquid has on the fat molecules in milk. We made predictions and reported our findings.  We also changed some factors and learned how important a control is.

Below there are some pictures and a short video showing the outcome of the experiment.
