Our Broad General Education (BGE) curriculum is designed to develop the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence, helping young people become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors. Structured around the Social Studies Experiences and Outcomes, the curriculum provides learners with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and understanding through the study of History, Modern Studies, and Geography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In S1 and S2, learners are taught by one or at most two Social Subjects teachers, allowing them to make clear connections across the three disciplines and build strong relationships with staff. Learning is organised into four thematic blocks, each focused on a core set of Social Subjects skills which are developed through a range of historical, geographical, and contemporary contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Assessment is based on a range of evidence gathered throughout learning, alongside High Quality Assessments (HQAs). These project-based assessments challenge learners to apply the knowledge and skills developed across a block to unfamiliar tasks, demonstrating their ability to think critically, analyse information, and draw informed conclusions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
