{"id":131,"date":"2019-12-14T21:01:34","date_gmt":"2019-12-14T21:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/olhslrc\/?page_id=131"},"modified":"2021-06-11T19:29:26","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T19:29:26","slug":"reading-trail","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/olhslrc\/reading\/reading-trail\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Reading Trail is an initiative that takes place between New Year and Easter for all learners in S1.<\/p>\n<p>The Reading Trail has changed across the years, but its focus is still about encouraging reading for pleasure, and introducing young people to new authors and genres they might not have known about before.<\/p>\n<p>All S1 classes visit the Library fortnightly to swap their books and for Information Literacy. During the Reading Trail, we discuss different methods of storytelling:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>oral storytelling:<\/strong>\u00a0the oldest form of storytelling was people sitting round the fire sharing stories they&#8217;d heard (and often scaring everyone senseless)<\/li>\n<li><strong>picture books:<\/strong> usually associated with toddlers, but picture books are for everyone. This is probably everyone&#8217;s favourite period in the Library year as they remember old stories from when they were wee, or find new favourites.<\/li>\n<li><strong>graphic novels and manga:<\/strong>\u00a0graphic novels or comics can be confusing for some people but this is a brilliant way of telling stories in a more visual way. Manga are Japanese\u00a0 graphic novels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The alternate week from the Library visit involves reading what you&#8217;ve discovered, but we encourage just a little bit of effort from everyone: maybe read for 5 minutes before going to bed; maybe try a new genre or author;\u00a0 maybe think a bit more about what you&#8217;ve read.<\/p>\n<p>Every class comes up with a team name and we share the books that everyone has read, providing suggestions for others to follow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Reading Trail is an initiative that takes place between New Year and Easter for all learners in S1.
