{"id":1024,"date":"2021-12-03T09:48:23","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T09:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/olhshtblog\/?p=1024"},"modified":"2021-12-15T12:38:17","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T12:38:17","slug":"ht-blog-3rd-december-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/olhshtblog\/2021\/12\/03\/ht-blog-3rd-december-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"HT Blog &#8211; 3rd December 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Covid 19<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have not had too many positive cases of Covid 19 confirmed in the school over the last few weeks, which is great.\u00a0 We would like that to continue, especially as we approach the S4 prelims and the Christmas holidays.\u00a0 A way of helping this stays the case, I would encourage pupils to test regularly, at least twice a week.\u00a0 There are plenty of lateral flow tests available and pupils can collect these from the school office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virtual Parents\u2019 Evenings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have now managed to have two virtual Parents\u2019 evenings, which have been fairly successful.\u00a0 We are aware that there have been issues for some parents getting logged on and hopefully these can be ironed out as we go along. I believe there have been similar issues being seen across all the schools using the same system.\u00a0 However, it has been good to have that opportunity to report to parents again, albeit on a digital platform.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1007 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/olhshtblog\/uploads\/sites\/34469\/2021\/10\/28150645\/group-call-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Good Luck!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Good luck to all our S4 pupils who begin their prelims on Monday 6<sup>th<\/sup> December.\u00a0 They have been working hard and so here\u2019s hoping it has all paid off!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1025 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/olhshtblog\/uploads\/sites\/34469\/2021\/12\/01112420\/Good-luck.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/olhshtblog\/uploads\/sites\/34469\/2021\/12\/01112420\/Good-luck.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/olhshtblog\/uploads\/sites\/34469\/2021\/12\/01112420\/Good-luck-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Visits to Primary classes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preparation is ongoing for the transition for our new cohort of S1 pupils who will be joining us in August 2022.\u00a0 There are a number of different things going in the background to help us gather as much information as we can.\u00a0 Recently, Mr Lang and I had the pleasure of visiting the Primary 7 pupils in our associated Primary schools (Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral, St Bernadette&#8217;s and St Brendan&#8217;s) to introduce ourselves and answer any questions.\u00a0 Mr Lang has set up a group on Teams and this can be used to answer any questions that the pupils or parents may have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Young Enterprise<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recently a group of S3 pupils had the opportunity to take part in a Young Enterprise Scotland Challenge.\u00a0 This was a great day that pupils got a lot out of.\u00a0 Once again, our visitors to the school were very impressed with the participation of our pupils.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FFDxtbWX0AYhyIc?format=jpg&amp;name=small\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"541\" height=\"541\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Christmas Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once again we are having a Christmas Activities Day this year on 16<sup>th<\/sup> December, consisting of a Quiz, a Christmas Film and a Walkathon.\u00a0 We are hoping to raise \u00a32000 for our charities chosen by the pupils (St Andrew&#8217;s Hospice, St Margaret&#8217;s Children &amp; Family Care Society and Teenage Cancer Trust).\u00a0 A Just Giving page has been set up and we would be grateful for any contribution you can make:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/crowdfunding\/kathleen-smith-5?utm_id=60&amp;utm_term=ANPEVB7Qd\">https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/crowdfunding\/kathleen-smith-5?utm_id=60&amp;utm_term=ANPEVB7Qd<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1026 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/olhshtblog\/uploads\/sites\/34469\/2021\/12\/01112501\/north-pole.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Police visit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We were recently visited by a community Police Officer who came to the school to give a talk to S1 pupils on the dangers of social media and also the language we use with each other.\u00a0 We have had a similar talk form a local lawyer given to S2 pupils on the dangers of uploading pictures and videos to social media.\u00a0 These talks have been very informative and hopefully our young people will take on board any advice given.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSmrSiae9I-1d0QZWZxOY7I_xmEleL6fXyDHw&amp;usqp=CAU\" alt=\"Social Media,. Social Media, Is it truly Negative? | by Patrick Rodriguez | Medium\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prisoner Officer visit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>S3 and S4 Modern Studies pupils were in the lecture theatre recently, speaking to an officer from HM Low Moss. There was an excellent discussion surrounding the causes of crime and how the prison tackles this issue through various initiatives and programs\u2026 and what prisoners got to eat for dinner!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FFhy44nX0AcW6h0?format=jpg&amp;name=small\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"299\" height=\"399\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Catholic Education visits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of Catholic Education Week this year we were once again able to go out to our local parishes where one of our S6 Caritas pupils gave a talk on the benefits of Catholic Education and the work going on in Our Lady\u2019s HS and our associated Primary Schools.\u00a0 Thanks to the parishes for welcoming us and allowing us to speak at the Masses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FFSc-96XIAAJP69?format=jpg&amp;name=small\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"412\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FFR1yrwXsAEtuvr?format=jpg&amp;name=small\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"415\" height=\"553\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>St Andrew\u2019s Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Feast of St Andrew was celebrated on 30th November. Mrs. Connor and pupils from Andrew House organised a stall at interval and lunchtime to help raise funds for St Andrew\u2019s Hospice.\u00a0 Thanks to all who helped raise over \u00a3100 for the width=\"517\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MSP visit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The S6 Politics class recently had an enjoyable and informative session with our local MSP Claire Friday afternoon and uptake continues to be high in the school.\u00a0 Pupils should sign up each week using the form available on the Team that has been set up by Mr McGurk.\u00a0 Updates can be found local schools.\u00a0 They performed well and congratulations to Rachel and Emily for their winning performance!\u00a0 Thanks go to our S4 dance leaders, Emily, Katie and Eva for all their hard
