This week, the children were excited to share the wonderful treasures they collected as part of our Autumn Challenge. We explored a fantastic collection of pine cones, conkers, leaves, sticks and twigs, which sparked lots of meaningful discussions. The children confidently shared where they had found their items and who they had enjoyed collecting them with, helping to develop their communication skills and sense of belonging.<\/p>\n
As part of our literacy and wellbeing learning, we enjoyed reading The Huge Bag of Worries. Through group discussions, the children explored the importance of sharing their feelings and recognising that everyone can have worries from time to time. Together, we created our own Nursery Bag of Worries and talked about trusted adults and friends who can help us when we are feeling sad, worried or upset. This has supported the children in developing their emotional awareness and understanding positive ways to manage their feelings.<\/p>\n
Our focus on HEALTHY, this month’s SHANARRI wellbeing indicator, has been woven throughout our learning experiences. The children have been learning about different parts of their bodies and discussing how they help us in everyday life. We have explored ways to keep our bodies healthy, including staying active, getting enough rest, eating nutritious foods and drinking water. These discussions helped the children understand how we can help our bodies grow, stay strong and function well.<\/p>\n
This week, we were also delighted to welcome the North Lanarkshire First Aid Team into our nursery for a parent-and-child workshop. Families had the opportunity to learn more about basic first aid and what to do in the event of an emergency or injury. It was a valuable experience that helped raise awareness of simple steps we can take to keep ourselves and others safe, while building confidence in knowing when and how to seek help.<\/p>\n
In the construction area, the children explored the wider world of work and developed their understanding of communities. Working collaboratively, they designed and built their own Cathedral Town, complete with a zoo, doctor’s surgery, hospital, fire station and several play parks. Through imaginative play and discussion, the children demonstrated an understanding of the important roles people play within our communities and how different places help to meet our needs.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, our creative learners have been busy designing and making spooky monsters using a variety of natural and collage materials. The children explored texture, shape, colour and design while expressing their creativity and individuality, resulting in some wonderfully unique creations.<\/p>\n
Finally, we were delighted to welcome the North Lanarkshire First Aid Team to our nursery for a parent and child first aid workshop.<\/p>\n
Families had the opportunity to learn valuable lifesaving skills and develop confidence in knowing what to do in the event of an emergency or injury. Together, we explored the importance of calling for help, who to contact in an emergency, how CPR can help save a life and how to apply bandages to support someone who is injured. It was an informative and engaging session that promoted safety awareness and provided families with practical knowledge they can use both at home and in the wider community.<\/p>\n
It has been another very busy week filled with creativity, curiosity, collaboration and rich learning conversations. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm the children continue to show in their learning and look forward to seeing where their interests take us next week.<\/p>\n
