We are going to focus on the environment and plastic pollution because on Friday it is World Environment Day.<\/p>\n<p>World Environment Day (WED) is an international day of environmental awareness and action that happens on the 5th of June each year.<\/p>\n<p>This started in 1974 by the United Nations, each year WED is hosted by a different country, with events focusing on a central theme. This year it was being held in Colombia, with Biodiversity as the central theme.<\/p>\n<p>Biodiversity refers to the variety of life. It is seen in the number of species in an ecosystem or on the entire Earth. Biodiversity gets used as a measure of the health of biological systems, and to see if there is a danger that too many species become extinct.<\/p>\n<p>This day is meant to allow people highlight how they take care of the Earth.\u00a0Here are some suggestions for fun, biodiversity supporting World Environment Day activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walk or ride your bike<\/li>\n<li>Plant seeds or flowers<\/li>\n<li>Recycle materials such as plastic bottles, tins or paper<\/li>\n<li>Research an Endangered Animal<\/li>\n<li>Research information on Rainforests<\/li>\n<li>Research information on Coral Reefs<\/li>\n<li>Make a bird feeder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I found a great eBook called The Cautious Caterpillar suitable for Primary 1-3.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/oldmonklandps\/uploads\/sites\/26395\/2020\/05\/31202315\/The-Cautious-Caterpillar-Story.ppt\">The Cautious Caterpillar Story<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Primary 4-7 I found an interesting PowerPoint and Fact Files on animals from the Rainforest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/oldmonklandps\/uploads\/sites\/26395\/2020\/05\/31201745\/Animal-Fact-File-PowerPoint.pptx\">Animal Fact File PowerPoint<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/oldmonklandps\/uploads\/sites\/26395\/2020\/05\/31201748\/Animal-Fact-Files.pdf\">Animal Fact Files<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You may also want to try these recycling activities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/oldmonklandps\/uploads\/sites\/26395\/2020\/05\/31201734\/16-things-to-make-and-do-with-your-recycling.pdf\">16 things to make and do with your recycling<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy this weeks focus,<\/p>\n<p>Miss Jones x<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello boys and girls, This week we are going to focus on Article 24 &#8211; the\u00a0right to a safe environment.
