Use traffic lights to self -assess<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Homework grids will be put in homework jotters at the start of each block. Tasks for each week are issued on the Monday to be completed and returned on the Friday. If for any reason you are unable to complete the set homework please write a note in the diary.<\/p>\n<p>Children will have weekly targets in their diaries. On a Thursday night, please look at their target and review how they have done this week. If you wish to write a comment in the box please do so. If for example your child is saying they have improved their sequencing of numbers. Ask them to tell you how they know. In term 1 targets will be linked to homework tasks.<\/p>\n<p>PE for Term 1 will be on a Monday and Friday. Polo shirts should be worn on these days only.<\/p>\n<p>Please send your child with suitable shoes for PE, pull on or Velcro strap if they cannot tie their own laces. If wearing lace up shoes they must be able to tie laces independently. In line with North Lanarkshire Council guidelines, no jewellery should be worn during PE lessons. If your child wears earrings please ensure they can remove earring independently otherwise please cover earring with plaster.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Mathematics Around Us<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Choose to do <strong>one<\/strong> of the following homework tasks this week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Mathematics Walk<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Take a walk around your area or a shopping centre. What evidence of mathematics and numeracy can you see?<\/p>\n<p>For example, house numbers, speed signs (both mathematics and numeracy \u2013 shape and number!) Traffic lights \u2013 sequence\/pattern etc\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In a supermarket, weighing machines, prices, ordering, sequencing etc..<\/p>\n<p>Take photographs of the mathematics\/numeracy in your area. Bring them or send them to the school email address.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Interview an adult about how they use mathematics and numeracy in their job.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For example someone who builds scaffolds has to use <strong>angles<\/strong> to construct the structure safely; <strong>estimation skills for measure<\/strong> \u2013 how high to build; <strong>problem solving shape and measure <\/strong>\u2013 loading scaffolding into and out of van; work out <strong>time<\/strong> and <strong>cost <\/strong>for job. I am sure there are even more maths and numeracy areas in the everyday life of a scaffolder but you get the idea!<\/p>\n<p>Note down all the areas they tell you, be prepared to share your information with the class.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Numeracy Homework<\/p>\n<p>Week 1<\/p>\n<p>Mental Agility and recall of basic number facts are key for your child\u2019s progress and confidence with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, money and counting skills.<\/p>\n<p>Each task is designed to take 5 minutes and requires no writing. These task should be completed on a daily basis to ensure progress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><u>Make a number<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Learning Intention \u2013 your child demonstrates ability to read 3 digit numbers <\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p>How many 3 digit numbers can you make in 5 minutes?<\/p>\n<p>Ask your child to cut out the digits and shuffle the cards. Ask them to choose <strong>three (3) cards<\/strong> and arrange<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The highest number they can make<\/li>\n<li>The lowest number they can make<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Extension\/Challenge can they add\/subtract these numbers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><u>Find the Value<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u>Learning Intention \u2013 your child revises their knowledge of hundreds, tens and units<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Using the digit cards as above, choose 3 to arrange as a 3 digit number. For example 7, 5 &amp; 9.<\/p>\n<p>Arrange into highest number you can make \u2013 975. Ask your child the value to the tens. Answer should be either 7 tens or 70. Make 2 digit numbers. For example if child has chosen 4, 6, 8 &amp;1. They could make 46 and 18, 64 &amp; 81, 14 &amp; 68 etc\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Use the numbers to add (again initially give 15 seconds) Ask how they worked out answer. For example 14 + 68. They could have added 10 + 60\u00a0\u00a0 is 70. The 4 + 8 is 12.
