RE – The Month of the Sacred Heart

I hope you got a chance to draw a heart with the people you love inside it and give it into St Joseph’s Church. June is known as the month of the Scared Heart of Jesus. During this month we remember that Jesus was both God and human. He had a heart just like us. We associate hearts with love and that is just what the Scared Heart is about. It reminds of the great love Jesus has for us!

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque  is famous for bringing people closer to devotion of the Scared Heart. Watch this short video about her life.

The prayer to the Scared Heart of Jesus is a devotion. A devotion is something that people do or say to show their love for God and Jesus.

Here is a really simple version of the prayer. Try to say it every day in June but especially on June 19th the feast of the Scared Heart.

“Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in you.”

A fun way to celebrate is to make heart shaped  biscuits or cookies!

You might want to make a heart for yourself to keep at home. Draw a big heart and write the names of everyone you love in it. Display it in your home for the month of June.

You might have a statue of the Sacred Heart at home or perhaps your gran and grandpa has one. If you face-time them or talk via the computer ask them to show you it.

Here is a colouring page you can use to display if you wish.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque reported that Jesus appeared to her and made these twelve promises to all who honour an image of His Sacred Heart.
1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.
2. I will establish peace in their families.
3. I will comfort them in their trials.
4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and, above all, in death.
5. I will shed abundant blessings on all their undertakings
6. Sinners will find in My Heart an infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Lukewarm souls will become fervent.
8. Fervent souls will rapidly grow in holiness and perfection.
9. I will bless every place where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honoured.
10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. The names of those who promote this devotion will be written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
12. I promise thee, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.
