STEM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths)<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Good morning everyone, buenos dias a todos.<\/p>\n

This is St Joseph’s STEM week and Miss Clark will be posting lots of interesting STEM activities on Twitter for you to try throughout the week. Here is some information about STEM Share. Look down this page and you will see a science activity to try with raisins!<\/p>\n

Here is activity #1 (science)<\/p>\n

Bobbing Raisins
\nNote: This activity can be done with regular
\nhousehold items, but don\u2019t forget to ask an adult to\u00a0supervise. (This experiment is from
\nwww.kids-science-experiments.com)
\nTOPIC
\nGas Release
\nSUPPLIES
\n\u2022 Clear glass jar
\n\u2022 Carbonated drink (clear possibly lemondade)
\n\u2022 Handful (4-6) of raisins
\nINSTRUCTIONS
\n1. Pour the carbonated drink into the glass jar
\n2. Drop the raisins into the glass jar
\nWHAT HAPPENS?
\nWHAT CAUSES ALL THE ACTION?
\nThe bobbing up and down happens because
\nthe bubbles of the carbon dioxide gas in the
\ndrink are much less dense than the drink or
\nthe raisins.
\nOnce the raisins start bobbing up and down, they
\ncontinue to rise and fall for about an hour.
\n\u2022 Raisins are denser than the carbonated
\ndrink, so they will sink.
\n\u2022 Gas bubbles attach to the wrinkles on
\nthe raisins.
\n\u2022 When the raisins are covered with the
\nbubbles they become less dense than the
\ndrink, so they start to rise.
\n\u2022 The gas bubbles start bursting and then the
\nraisins become denser than the drink, so sink again.<\/p>\n

Literacy<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Write your Spelling words 3 times using HUGE BLUE<\/span> letters then write them 3 times using tiny red<\/span> letters.<\/h4>\n

Primary 2 – four, miss, never, these, round, cook<\/p>\n

Write 3 sentences, try to type them on to Glow and use a capital letter to begin your sentence and a full stop to end.<\/p>\n

Primary 3 – talk, air, lift, land, Tuesday, afternoon<\/p>\n

Write 5 sentences using a capital letter to start and full stop to end.<\/p>\n

Numeracy\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n
