Friday 15th May 2020

Good morning boys and girls,

Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a great week. Remember today we have our class meet at 12 noon on teams. Just log on and join the call and hopefully we will be able to hear from you all. You will be able to see Mrs Curran and I but we won’t be able to see you but we will be able to see your name and hear you when you speak. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Just a few tasks for today since we have our ‘chat’ today too.

Literacy

Read – Read a book of your choice from home or from the oxford reading website if you don’t have anything to use from home. Read it aloud to someone at home and ask them to read a couple of pages for you too. Just like our Friday partner reading in class.

Dictation

Ask someone to dictate the sentence to you and you write it down without looking at it. You can have a read and practise looking at the sentence before trying to write it if you need to.

Primary 1

1. We got a flag for you.

Primary 2

1.We could sail the toy boat down the river.

These sentences are revision of common words and phoneme words from last term.

Numeracy

Mental maths.

Primary 1

Practise your number bonds to 10 and if you are finding that easy go on to number bonds to 20.

Practise counting in 2’s and 3’s to 20. Try counting in 5’s and  10’s to 100. This will be tricky but practise makes perfect!

Primary 2

Practise counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s to 100.

Practise your 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Have a super Friday everyone and Mrs Curran and I are excited for our meeting. Speak to you all then and if you can not come on today don’t worry we will do it again.

Thursday 14th May 2020

Good morning boys and girls,

It’s Thursday again, the weeks are going by very fast and I hope you are all staying safe and enjoying being at home with your families. I was in the hub on Friday with some of our boys and girls, it was lovely to see them and made me miss you all even more. I can not wait for us all to be back together again. Mrs Curran and I thought it would be lovely to catch up with you all tomorrow on a teams meeting at 12pm if any of you are free to come on and say hi. It will just be an informal chat to find out how you all are. I hope to hear from some of you tomorrow. I think you just go on to teams at 12pm and click on the link and it connects us all, hopefully as you all know me and computers are not the best of friends are we?haha.

Todays tasks:

Grammar – Verbs

A verb is doing word. Watch the video below and complete the activity below. I will attach the link for the activity and video separate for some reason the actual video clips will not upload today.

Maths

Measure

If we were in school we would be learning about measure this month. I would like you to have a wee go at measuring some items at home. First of all we would use non-standard units of measure that is things that are not the same size so our hands, feet, arms, cubes, strides etc. I would like you to try to measure the length of some items at home using non-standard units of measure. You can do this outside and make it fun. Do it with someone else and see if you get the same amount? Why do you think you might not? If you and me measured the length of the garden using our feet, would we get the same amount of feet?

Sumdog

Log into sumdog and complete some of the challenges we have set you.

Art and Design

Make a thank you card for someone at home who has helped you with something recently maybe for you mum or dad or brother or sister who has helped you with something during this time.

Have a lovely day boys and girls. Thank you for all your hard work. Mrs Curran and I are delighted with how well you are all working at home.

Literacy

Today I would like everyone to read the poem below about the bug and then write your own poem about any animal you like.

🐸🐵🐶🐺🐷🐮🦝🐼🐴🦄🐰🐻🦊🦒🐯🦁

Remember not all poems have to rhyme but sometimes it’s easier to include some rhyming words to help you  get started !

Here’s a link to the BBC Bitesize page to give you some help to write your poem.            BBC Bitesize Poetry

Send  your poems to  Mrs McHugh and I to read either to the comments box or to our Teams page.

Have fun and we’re  sure that there are a lot of budding poets in our class! 📝😀
