Maths for Wednesday

Problem solving as it’s Wednesday. I have two activities today both involve thinking about and calculating money.

  1. It’s very important with problem solving that you read all the detail and show working. The page below is similar in style to last week, the difference this week is that you can make use of a calculator. So it’s especially critical that you read and understand what operation is involved and with which digits. Friendly Microbes – Money Problem Solving
  2. You can be more creative with this money activity. Ideal bedroom Investigation MONEY.

I.D.L. for Wednesday

As our class novel develops we are becoming more informed of the differences between the childhood experiences of today in comparison to those of the Victorian times. With this in mind, your task is to carry out some research then complete the Venn diagram which is attached below. Don’t worry if you haven’t got access to a printer, you can always just draw & write the detail out or indeed type out into a word document, whichever is most straightforward for you?

The websites below may be of use for research?

Science for Wednesday

So last Wednesday you’ll remember you were introduced to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a highly regarded engineer from the Victorian era.  We’ll continue with the theme of engineering today.

  1. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/ks2-isambard-kingdom-brunel-engineering-genius/zb9vhbk The first activity is to watch the short video above.
  2. Victorian Engineers, Scientists and Inventors PowerPoint The second element is to read the information on Sarah Guppy, another noted engineer from Victorian England,  you’ll find this information from slide 13 onwards. It’s important that you click ‘view slideshow’ rather than try to read just particular slides as it’ll not appear as it should otherwise.
  3. STEM Spaghetti Bridge Finally, the third part today is to give the engineering challenge a go. Now, I’m perfectly happy for you to substitute spaghetti for lego or some other construction toy. I will say, the challenge is to build a bridge strong enough to hold a bag of sugar. If you can, upload photos or videos of your structures, I’d love to see them. Have fun!

Catch up tomorrow

Hi Primary 7, Mrs. Gribben and I are really looking forward to catching up with you tomorrow. Could you pop over to the P7 Team at some point today and let Mr. McCloskey know that you have seen the invite. He has asked to you to comment under his post.  A couple of people have already done this so well done!

When we start the meeting tomorrow can I ask that you are all on mute to begin with just so that you can hear Mrs. Gribben and I clearly.

We’ll be interested in hearing what you’ve been up to since we last saw you so bring your best chat. We’ll probably play a couple of games too and if you’re having any issues with your online learning you will have a chance to discuss this too.

Speak to you tomorrow.

Mrs. Baxter

Word of the Day for Tuesday

Good morning boys and girls, hope Tuesday finds you well? The word to register for online learning today is ‘scurry’.

Yesterday, for those who could tell me that flamboyance is the collective noun to describe a group of flamingos, great work!

Literacy for Tuesday – Reading

So yesterday, hopefully you had the time to read chapter three of Victorian Venture? If not, you will need to do this before trying to complete the tasks below.

  1. On pages 23-25, Tilda and Charlie have an encounter with a woman. Your task is to draw an annotated image of what takes place. The scene is well described just prior to the meeting with the children so try to get this into your image along with descriptive vocabulary.
  2. In class you are familiar with completing BLOOMS tasks. You have the choice of the four attached below. I’m asking you to select just one to complete. BLOOMS 19thJan

Topic for Tuesday

Yesterday you gave some time to thinking about the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Today, I’d like you to focus on Kate Cranston. I have attached two links below, please read through all the detail and then I’d like you to produce either a leaflet or poster/infographic on The Willow Tearooms. Your work should be eye-catching and informative.
