\/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\"> Engineering, science, technology and business rely upon mathematics and continue to find new applications for mathematics.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\"> Cultural development and artistic endeavour are influenced by mathematics.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\"> Each of us uses mathematical skills and concepts in everyday life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\"> To face the challenges of the 21st century, each young person needs to have confidence in using mathematical skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080\">Learning through mathematics enables young people to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800080\">Develop essential numeracy skills, including arithmetical skills which allow them to participate more fully in society.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800080\">Develop understanding of mathematical concepts, principles and processes of and apply these in different contexts, including the world of work.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800080\">Develop an understanding of the application of mathematics, its impact on our society past and present, and its potential for the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #800080\">Establish firm foundations for further mathematical and other
