{"id":149,"date":"2015-06-19T09:44:54","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T09:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/anntest3\/?page_id=149"},"modified":"2023-03-26T21:17:26","modified_gmt":"2023-03-26T21:17:26","slug":"additional-support-needs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/langloanprimary\/additional-support-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"Additional Support Needs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Langloan Primary School complies with the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">North Lanarkshire Council&#8217;s policy is contained within &#8220;Support for Learning Policy into Practice&#8221;, a copy of which, <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">is available in the school.\u00a0 The school has a Support for Learning Policy, available from the school on request, <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">which is consistent with North Lanarkshire Council guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Children are taught in groups and work according to their ability.\u00a0 At times pupils&#8217; may show <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">specific learning skills or difficulties.\u00a0 It is important to remember that some pupils&#8217; <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">may experience some difficulty in the course of their school career or may show a strength <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">in a certain area of the curriculum.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">However, where pupils&#8217; show specific difficulties or strengths <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">he\/she will be supported by the class teacher or, in some cases, the additional needs support teacher <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">will be asked to make an assessment of a child&#8217;s difficulty or strength to ensure the pupil <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">is given a programme of work which meets their needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">The school may also seek advice and guidance from Psychological Services but parents&#8217; will <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">always be advised if referral is necessary.\u00a0 We also enlist the support of North Lanarkshire Council&#8217;s Bilingual <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">Support Unit where necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Support given to pupils&#8217; reflects Learning and Leisure Services staged intervention process, that is:-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">UNIVERSAL- Internal support, where education staff identify that a child or young person needs support or planning which can be met within the existing classroom or playroom setting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">ADDITIONAL- Internal support, where education staff identify that a child or young person needs support or planning from within the <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">school or early years establishment. They may require<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\"> External support from within Learning and Leisure services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">INTENSIVE- External support provided on a multiagency basis, where the child or young person&#8217;s needs are identified as requiring support or planning from multiagency services and these support needs will last for more than a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Langloan Primary School has the assistance of a school psychologist who visits approximately once a month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Further assistance can be requested from the Inclusion Base, Literacy Base, Health Specialists and the SAM Group, <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">which can support children through the use of computers.\u00a0 Pupils&#8217; who have English as an additional language <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">can have additional support through a specialist teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Looked After Children i.e. children who are cared for directly or whose care is supervised by the local authority <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">are deemed to have Additional Support Needs unless assessment determines otherwise.\u00a0 The Head Teacher <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">is responsible for children under the care of social work department.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Parents&#8217; are able to request an assessment to establish whether a child has additional needs or requires <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">a Co-ordinated Support Plan.\u00a0 Contact the Head Teacher, Mrs Rooney.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Parents&#8217; and pupils&#8217; are an essential part of the assessment, planning and review processes and your <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">views will be actively sought.\u00a0 Parents and young people can request of the authority to establish whether a child has additional <\/span><span style=\"color: #993300\">support needs.\u00a0 They can also request an assessment at any time.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Langloan Primary School complies with the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2009.
