{"id":146,"date":"2015-06-19T09:43:06","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T09:43:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/anntest3\/?page_id=146"},"modified":"2015-12-09T10:45:58","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T10:45:58","slug":"anti-bullying","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/langloanprimary\/anti-bullying\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Bullying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Minimising Bullying Policy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Rationale<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">Bullying in Langloan Primary School and Nursery Class can only be effectively dealt with if parents, staff and pupils work together to find a solution.\u00a0 Bullying does exist and is a problem in all schools.\u00a0 It must be given a high profile within the school, where an open, caring and responsive climate should be created.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Aims<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">to develop an awareness that bullying is unacceptable.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">to develop a shared view of bullying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">to work in partnership with parents to minimise bullying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">to encourage an open climate where concerns are heard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">to develop a range of strategies to deal with bullying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">to develop a sense of shared responsibility within the school community.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>What is Bullying?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">It is a deliberate act where a person is wilful and has a conscious desire to hurt, threaten or frighten someone else.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">Verbal:\u00a0 being called nasty names\/nasty comments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">Social:\u00a0\u00a0 being left out of things\/ no one talking to you.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">Material:\u00a0\u00a0 possessions stolen\/ property damaged.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">Physical:\u00a0\u00a0 being assaulted.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Role of the Management Team<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">To work with the staff to create a caring and supportive ethos throughout the whole school by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">fostering a whole school approach to bullying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">promoting partnership between home and school.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">supporting staff in their efforts to deal with bullying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">ensuring that both victim and bully are counselled and supported.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">applying sanctions where necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Role of the Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">To support the children by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">raising awareness of bullying and its effects on a regular basis through the curriculum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">being aware of and defusing potential situations before they escalate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">encouraging witnesses to report bullying incidents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">taking reports of bullying seriously.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">taking action where necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">reporting serious or persistent problems to the Management Team.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Role of the Parent<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Parents&#8217; should support their child\/children by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">letting you child know you are pleased to be told about the incident(s)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">reporting repeated or serious incidents to the school.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">co-operating with the school by allowing us sufficient time to deal with the matter; bullying can be complex and difficult to solve.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>School Procedures for Dealing with Bullying<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">investigate incident.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">support the victim and counsel the bully.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">report incidents of a more serious or persistent nature to the Management Team.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">involve parents&#8217; where necessary and work in pertnership to resolve the situation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">sanctions will be applied by the Management Team if necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">in extreme cases where no satisfactory outcome can be reached at school level, the authority can be involved.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>Strategies for Children<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Pupils should try to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">avoid worrying.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">keep in control.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">stay calm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">look confident.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">stay with friends.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">pretend they don&#8217;t care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">most importantly tell someone- a friend, janitor, teacher or parent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">if you keep it a secret you are protecting the bully and saying it is o.k to treat you as he\/she is doing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Pupils should not:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">blame themselves.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">think like a victim.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">put themselves at risk.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">show they are upset.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #993300\"><strong>No Hitting Policy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Why should I not hit back if someone hits me?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">it can make the situation worse.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">someone could get injured.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">it can make it difficult to find out who is at fault.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">it encourages violence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">it undermines all efforts to develop self control.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minimising Bullying Policy Rationale Bullying in Langloan Primary School and Nursery Class can only be effectively dealt with if parents, staff and pupils work together to find a solution.\u00a0 Bullying does exist and is a problem in all schools.\u00a0 It &hellip;
