{"id":109,"date":"2015-06-19T09:39:32","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T09:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/anntest3\/?page_id=109"},"modified":"2015-12-09T10:46:13","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T10:46:13","slug":"numeracy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/langloanprimary\/numeracy\/","title":{"rendered":"Numeracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Mathematics includes specific aspects of numeracy which will be developed both in mathematics and through activities in other areas of the curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Putting mathematical knowledge and understanding to constructive use has been one of the decisive factors in shaping societies.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300\"> Engineering, science, technology and business rely upon mathematics and continue to find new applications for mathematics.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300\"> Cultural development and artistic endeavour are influenced by mathematics.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300\"> Each of us uses mathematical skills and concepts in everyday life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300\"> To face the challenges of the 21st century, each young person needs to have confidence in using mathematical skills, and Scotland needs both specialist mathematicians and a highly numerate population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">Learning through mathematics enables children and young people to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">develop essential numeracy skills, including arithmetical skills which allow them to participate fully in society<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">develop a secure understanding of the concepts, principles and processes of mathematics and apply these in different contexts, including the world of work<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">have an understanding of the application of mathematics, its impact on our society past and present, and its potential for the future<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300\">establish firm foundations for further specialist learning, including for those who will be the mathematicians of the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mathematics includes specific aspects of numeracy which will be developed both in mathematics and through activities in other areas of the curriculum.
